Road Closures Planned this Weekend

Police provide alternative routes. Several roads are closed due to parades with the Holy Ghost Festa.

Newark police are cautioning commuters of road closures expected for this weekend that will be in effect as a result of the .

The following is information about the road closures as listed on the City of Newark website:

Portions of Thornton Avenue, Cherry Street, Plummer Avenue, and Arden Street will be closed for a few hours this weekend, July 21st and 22nd, to accommodate the Holy Ghost Parade.

Saturday 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

  • Eastbound lanes of Thornton Avenue between Cherry Street and St. Edwards Street.
  • Northbound lanes of Cherry Street between Plummer Avenue and Thornton Avenue.
  • Portions of Plummer Avenue and Arden Street.

Sunday 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

  • Eastbound lanes of Thornton Avenue between Cherry Street and St. Edwards Street.

Alternate routes for the weekend are Cedar Boulevard, Sycamore Street, Jarvis Avenue, and Central Avenue.
