Police: Woman Groped, Man Arrested After Stabbing, Police Search Five Homes in Robbery Investigation

In this week's crime log, police look for a man who improperly touched a woman and investigate an attempted murder.

The following is a summary of calls made to and arrests made by the Newark Police Department between Aug. 22 and Aug. 28.

Woman Grabbed Near Home

Police are searching for a man after a woman was grabbed inappropriately at the Foxwood condominium complex off Thornton Avenue. Police said the woman was grabbed by a suspect who was riding a bicycle just after 10 p.m. on Aug. 28. He is described as a Hispanic male adult in his early 20s who is of skinny build and dark complexion and stands at 5-feet-7. He has short black hair and was last seen wearing a white fitted T-shirt.

Stabbing Suspect Faces Attempted Murder Charge

A 33-year-old man was arrested on several charges, including suspicion of attempted murder, after a person was found suffering from stab wounds just after 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 at Olive Street and Graham Avenue. Read that report by clicking here.

Driver Flees from Minor Injury Accident

A 23-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and driving with a suspended license after an accident at Thornton Avenue and Cherry Street. Police said the man hit a vehicle, then fled on foot, with a group of women and junior high school-age girls chasing him. The driver of the other car was injured, police said.

Police Raid Five Homes

Newark police and officers from several jurisdictions raided five homes near or on Thomas Avenue between Thornton and Central avenues as part of an investigation of a series of armed robberies. Four people were arrested. Click to read more about that incident.

Burglary and Theft

Three people were arrested Aug. 27 after a residential burglary was reported on Mayhews Landing. A 46-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of burglary and two men, ages 32 and 29, were arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property. All three were booked into Santa Rita Jail.

Two women, ages 37 and 29, were arrested on suspicion of petty theft and committing a similar crime three times at Safeway off Jarvis Avenue on Aug. 24.

A 27-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of theft on Aug. 26.

A 33-year-od man was arrested on suspicion of theft at Sears at the NewPark Mall on Aug. 25. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

A 56-year-old man was arrested and cited on suspicion of theft on Aug. 23.

A 30-year-old man was arrested and cited on suspicion of theft on Aug. 22.

Violence

Several reports of batteries and assaults were called into the Newark Police Department throughout the week, but details of each call were not available.
