Police Warn of Woman Posing as PG&E Worker

Newark police are advising residents to be cautious after a woman posed as a PG&E worker to gain access to resident’s backyard. 

Nothing was taken and no one was harmed during the incident, but police are calling the case suspicious.

According to Newark police, the incident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday when a resident reported that a woman knocked at her door and claimed to be a PG&E employee. The woman asked for access to the backyard to take measurements for a gas line project.

The resident escorted the woman to the backyard and realized that the she did not have a PG&E uniform or vehicle, but did have a plastic PG&E logo card dangling from a lanyard on her neck.

Because of recent burglaries, the resident decided to call PG&E.

PG&E was “unable to verify that this subject was a legitimate PG&E employee,” according to Newark Police Department.
