Police: Victim Of Beating Lied About Carjacking

Police said a victim who reported he had been carjacked actually owed money.

A battered man who said he was a victim of a carjacking actually owed money and tried to pay the debt off with drugs, according to a Fremont Police Department alert issued Friday morning.

Fremont police said the battered man has been charged with filing a false police report and the two suspects are facing charges related to drug and weapons violations.

The victim reported that Thursday on Thornton Avenue near San Pedro Avenue in Fremont, according to Sgt. Jeff Campbell.

The victim's report led Fremont police to a Newark home on the 36000 block of Cedar Boulevard around 11:38 a.m, Campbell said.

When the home's occupants did not surrender after police called out to them, a SWAT team was called to the scene around 1 p.m., authorities said.

Several people were detained and were questioned, but the police activity did not end until nearly 7 p.m.

When the situation settled, the victim admitted he had fabricated the story and officers learned he owed the two suspects money, which he tried to pay off with an ounce of methamphetmine, according to the Fremont police police blotter.

The incident resulted in the four-lane closure of Cedar Boulevard from Lafayette Avenue to McDonald Avenue for several hours.
