Weapons
Special Enforcement Team (SET) detectives investigated the smell of marijuana at a parked car near Magnolia Street March 30. After they discovered a loaded firearm inside the vehicle, they arrested a 24-year-old Oakland man on suspicion of several weapons charges, including being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm.

Distracted Driving Enforcement
Starting April 4, Newark officers joined the California Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies in what is described as a βzero toleranceβ campaign for drivers using cell phones or texting behind the wheel.

Officers arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of methamphetamine possession in front of April 3.

Newark officers arrested a 22-year-old Newark man in connection with vandalism at a 7-Eleven store April 3. Officers found a broken window in one of the front doors at the location.
