Police: Man Tries to Rob Wells Fargo, Car Smashes into Newark Video

Officers also discovered stolen computers and a stolen vehicle's pink slip, according to Newark police.

Burglary

Officers say they found stolen computers inside the backpack of a 19-year-old man who was arrested in connection with a home burglary on the 36900 block of Darvon Street Jan. 12.

According to the police activity log, a woman was inside the home during the burglary, and she was the owner of the computers found in the man’s backpack.

Thirty minutes later, the activity log shows, officers arrested an 18-year-old man who tried to rob the Wells Fargo Bank at 34988 Newark Blvd.

Theft

During a probation search near Walnut Street the night of Jan. 16, officers say a 37-year-old man had a pink slip from a stolen vehicle that was found last week. Officers arrested the man for possession of stolen property.

Officers arrested a 36-year-old man near Central Avenue and Sycamore Street Monday morning, Jan. 17, after LoJack transmitter data led authorities to a stolen Acura parked in the area. Officers say the man also had another stolen vehicle in his possession, left in pieces at the site.

Officers responded to reports of a shoplifting incident at Target Monday night and arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the alleged theft.

Drugs

Officers discovered a loaded handgun with the serial number filed off and methamphetamine during a traffic stop on Cedar Boulevard Friday afternoon. The activity log shows officers arrested a 34-year-old San Jose man in connection with firearms and drug charges.

Other Incidents

Officers investigated reports of a smashed window at Tri-City Optometry, 7340 Thornton Ave., on Thursday morning, Jan. 13. Officers were reviewing blood and fingerprint evidence left at the scene.

Officers found a vehicle driving erratically on Thornton Avenue Saturday night, Jan. 15. The vehicle did not pull over for the officers’ traffic stop. After the vehicle finally stopped on Farwell Drive, south of Mowry Avenue, officers arrested a 36-year-old man on several charges, including reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.

Officers responded to reports of a vehicle hitting Newark Video, 36601 Newark Blvd. on Saturday, Jan. 15. According to the activity log, the male driver accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes and collided head-on with the building. Officers say the driver suffered bumps and bruises from the crash.
