Police Log: Arrests of Ecstacy & Pot Dealer and Identity-Snatching, Sneaker Thief

Cars stolen, stolen cars found, and more from Oct. 25 to Nov. 1

The following are significant crime and incidents reported in Newark between Oct. 25 to Nov. 1 as released by the Newark Police Department.

Friday, Nov. 1

  • Man arrested for DUI in death of worker on I-680. The driver of the vehicle is believed to have been drunk. Story here.
Thursday, Oct. 31
  • Vehicle reported stolen from San Leandro was located at 7:23 a.m. near Chuck E. Cheese
  • Vehicle reported stolen from Fremont was located at 11:44 a.m. near the Newark Library
  • Vehicle was reported stolen from Newark at 11:14 p.m. The missing car is a black 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass, with California license plates 2DGJ163.
Wednesday, Oct. 30
  • Two-alarm blaze damages Union City baking company.Story here.
  • Identity snatcher stealing shoes. A Fremont man, 30, was arrested at 11:50 a.m. for commercial burglary and identity theft after he was observed stealing shoes from Foot Locker and Champs at NewPark Mall. His wallet contained stolen credit cards from a Fremont person. 
  • Suspected Ecstacy and pot dealer arrested. A transient, 19, was arrested after a 5 p.m. traffic stop for alleged possession of MDMA ("Ecstacy") and marijuana for sale. A large quantity of marijuana was located in his car, along with seven small pills which tested positive for MDMA.
Tuesday, Oct. 29
  • Break-in at Cedar auto shop. The entire shift responded at 11:27 p.m. to an in-progress burglary at the Cedar Boulevard Kenco Automotive. A caller reported two males cut a hole into the building and were inside. The suspects fled prior to police arrival, and the building was secured and the owner contacted. A 1998 Ford Expedition, license 4AMC249, was stolen, along with tools and diagnostic equipment.
Monday, Oct. 28
  • Vehicle was reported stolen at 6:29 a.m. from in front of a Bluebell Drive home. The missing car is a two-door, gray 1998 Acura Integra with California plate 4ANZ567. The theft occurred sometime overnight.
  • Laundromat burglarized. A commercial break-in was logged at 6:50 a.m. at a laundromat at 35278 Newark Blvd., after suspects broke a lower front window to get inside and and used cutters to break into the coin machines. The loss was cash. The burglary occurred sometime overnight from 10:30 p.m. Sunday to Monday morning. 
Sunday, Oct. 27
  • Man high and pulling down his trousers at gas station. A 40-year-old man was arrested at 3:52 p.m. at Chevron at Newark Boulevard and Jarvis Avenue after reports of him pulling down his pants and yelling at people. He was determined to be under the influence of drugs. 
  • Attempted shoplifters with meth. A man and woman were arrested at 3:45 p.m. at NewPark Mall after security reported they were seen using pliers trying to dismantle merchandise anti-theft devices at Macy’s and Sears. As the pair left exited the mall, an officer stopped them and found the female, 28, was on probation with five grams of meth and a pipe in her car. The male, 26, was booked, as well, for meth and paraphernalia possession. 
Saturday, Oct. 26
  • Fremont teen dead in crash; friend arrested on manslaughter, DUI chargesStory here.
  • Medical emergency and DUI. Police and Alameda County Fire responded to a car stopped at 1:47 a.m. near Central Avenue and Sycamore Street for a scantily clad female passenger, 46, laid out and convulsing. She was arrested for outstanding warrants and transported for medical treatment. The male driver, 24, was booked for DUI.  
  • Boo-hoo-hoo, I'm drunk. A woman, 21, was arrested for public intoxication after she was found at 2:44 a.m. sitting in a vehicle along the 8300 block of Thornton Avenue screaming and crying. 
Friday, Oct. 25
  • Newark motorcyclist arrested for felony evasion. Story here.
  • Driving with meth. An Oakland male, 37, was arrested at 8:20 p.m. for suspected methamphetamine possession after a traffic stop on Newark Boulevard.
