Police Log: Bad Time at Goodtimes; DUI Driver Hits House

Hit-and-run motorist leaves behind license plate, and more from Nov. 8 to 14.

The following are significant crime and incidents reported in Newark between Nov. 8 to 14 as released by the Newark Police Department.

Thursday, Nov. 14

  • Alcohol and cigarettes were stolen in a burglary at 2:15 a.m. at Central Food and Liquor, where intruders shattered the front window triggering the burglar alarm. 
  • Minutes later, a second burglary alarm sounded at 2:19 a.m. at Cigarettes Cheaper on Cedar Boulevard. The front window was shattered in this incident, as well, with a loss of cigarettes.
Wednesday, Nov. 13
  • A fire hydrant was sheared off at 6 a.m. on Morton Avenue by a hit-and-run driver. 
  • Broken-down car contains drugs. At 11:50 p.m., police were called to handle a vehicle disabled in the intersection of Newark Boulevard and Thornton Avenue. After contacting the car's occupants, officers learned there was marijuana inside the car, which turned out to be four small plastic containers holding hash oil inside a passenger's purse. 
Tuesday, Nov. 12
  • DUI driver hits house. A Newark woman, 23, was arrested at 11:36 p.m. for suspected drunken driving after hitting a tree, a fire hydrant and crashing her vehicle into the side of a residence on Dorchester Court. And before all that, witnesses stated she was driving on the wrong side of the road. No one inside the home was injured. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a minor head injury. 
  • Backyard creepers. A Fremont man, 31, and a Fremont woman, 23, were arrested at 12:21 p.m. on the 6400 block of Baine Avenue after neighbors reported the pair peering into yards on Blaine and Birch Street. The male was arrested for suspected possession of methamphetamine and being under the influence of meth; the female was cited for possession of marijuana.
Monday, Nov. 11
  • Hit-and-run driver traced to license plate at scene. Police responded at 12:20 p.m. to a non-injury, hit-and-run collision at Newark Boulevard and Jarvis Avenue. Based on a license plate left behind by the suspect vehicle, officers were able to track down and arrest the motorist, a Newark man, 54.
Sunday, Nov. 10
  • Fourth DUI arrest for Newark man. At a 2:52 p.m. traffic stop at Dairy Avenue and Cherry Street, a Newark driver, 35, blew a .17 BAC and was arrested for his fourth DUI, along with charges  for lying about his identity and driving on a suspended license.
Saturday, Nov. 9
  • More car break-ins. Three separate victims went to police headquarters to log auto burglaries that occurred earlier in the week. 
  • Barroom brawl at Goodtimes. A fight broke out at 6:23 p.m. at the Goodtimes Lounge involving pool cues, billiard balls and beer bottles. Other than broken glass on the ground, none of the parties sustained any serious injuries and most fled before police arrived.
Friday, Nov. 8
  • Two DUIs. Arrests were made for suspected driving under the influence in two separate incidents. At 9:52 p.m., a Fremont man, 20, was arrested on Newark Boulevard. And at 1:39 a.m. on Sycamore Street, a Newark woman, 21, was apprehended.  
  • Several Coach purses were reported stolen following an auto burglary at The Isla Restaurant on Mowry School Road.
