The Newark Police Department this week announced its partnership with Nixle, a community information notification service that allows police to send out various notifications to residents by text message, e-mail and through its website.

The partnership with Nixle is just the first step the Newark Police Department is taking in its efforts to enhance its community outreach through social media outlets.

The Newark Police Department will be launching its Facebook page within the next two weeks and the launch of its Twitter account is not far behind, Shearn said.

“It’s a good avenue to reach a large amount of people,” Shearn said about social media outlets.
