Police Dogs Sniff Out Suspect In Downtown Arrest

Gabriel Solis, 26, of San Leandro was arrested for an outstanding warrant and for allegedly possessing a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, evading police and possessing burglary tools.

Bay City News -- A suspected car thief was arrested in San Leandro Saturday after a police K-9 sniffed him out from under a deck, police said.

Around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, an officer spotted a man known to have a warrant for his arrest for an alleged vehicle theft driving a Toyota Tercel near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Parrott Street, police said.

The officer attempted to stop the man, who sped away and led the officer on a chase for about half a block. The suspect then pulled into a parking lot at the corner of Washington Avenue and Parrott Street, got out of the car and ran, police said.

Police set up a perimeter in the area and searched for the suspect with the help of a police K-9. While searching around a home in the 1600 block of Hays Street, the police dog led officers to an area near a backyard deck.

Officers called out for the suspect to surrender, and he crawled out from underneath the deck, police said.

The man, identified as 26-year-old Gabriel Solis of San Leandro, was arrested for the outstanding warrant and for allegedly possessing a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, evading police and possessing burglary tools, according to police.

Police determined that the car Solis had been driving was stolen out of Oakland. San Leandro police Lt. Jeff Tudor said the suspect's arrest serves as an example of being aware of those with outstanding warrants in the community. "The officer's knowledge, available resources and quality teamwork led to the arrest of Solis," Tudor said.

Excellent! Another dirtbag off the streets. I can't wait for the Leftists on Patch to post; "oh how many police dogs were sent in to sniff out Wall Street?" or "Do you know how much that Gas station on Davis St. pays in property taxes? Hmmm why not send a police dog there?"
