Update: 15-Year-Old Arrested After Striking Light Pole

Police conducted a search after the teenager eluded officers during a traffic stop.

A 15-year-old Newark male was arrested today on suspicion of a hit and run, delaying arrest and driving without a license after he fled on foot during a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Police were called to Buckeye Place off of Buckeye Street in Newark around 1:03 p.m. after the 15-year-old had struck a light pole and took off on foot, said Commander Robert Douglas of the Newark Police Department.

Commander Renny Lawson of the Newark Police Department said another juvenile was in custody and that there is a Fremont Police Department warrant out for one of the teens in relation to burglaries in Fremont.

Lawson said police immediately began conducting yard-to-yard-searches. The 15-year-old was arrested at about 2:22 p.m. after being located on top of the roof of a home, Douglas said

Newark Patch readers reported heavy police activity on Mayhews Landing about on our Facebook page. During the duration of the search, police set up a perimeter between Buckeye and Bettencourt streets. Police began clearing thge area around 2:30 p.m.
