Police Search Newark Home Believed To Be Connected to Modesto Homicides

Two people were detained but released.

Newark police assisted Modesto police in a homicide investigation that led them to search a home on Reymouth Drive Friday morning, police said.

Newark Cmdr. Tom Milner said the "high-level investigation" involves a homicide that involved two male victims in Modesto, which occurred approximately 10-14 days ago.

Authorities connected a home on the 35000 block of Reymouth Drive to the homicides, Milner said, and members of the Newark-Union City SWAT team helped served the search warrant at approximatly 9:15 a.m.

Milner said two people were initially detained when the Newark home was searched Friday but they were released after officers determined that the pair was not involved in the homicides.

Authorities shut down portions of Reymouth Drive when they served the search warrant, but the street was re-opened within 40 minutes.

Kennedy Elementary School, which is two rows of houses away from the home being searched, was not placed on lockdown.

Milner said officers informed the school staff that they would be conducting a search warrant but had planned the operation in such away that it would not interfere with the school.

"We knew we had it properly contained," Milner said.
