Police: Burglars Hit Newpark Mall

In this week's crime log, police investigate shoplifting incidents inside and the town's shopping mall and make drug arrests.

Burglaries

A 19-year-old woman and a minor were arrested separately at the NewPark Mall after they were found in possession of stolen store merchandise on May 13, police said. The two cases are unrelated.

A 25-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of burglary at in Newpark Mall.

A minor was arrested on suspicion of burglary at on May 13. No other details were provided by police.

A 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, petty theft and possession of breaking-and-entering tools just before 10 p.m. on May 9. The man was found lurking around the dumpster area of a Newpark Mall parking lot, police said. Once officers made contact, they found the man was in possession of a laptop commuter that had just been taken from inside a vehicle at a parking lot near .

Drugs

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia (a syringe) behind a building on the 38000 block of Cherry Street. He was cited and released at the scene.

A 25-year-old man was arrested May 13 on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance on Mayhews Landing Drive near Christine Street. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

Other Incidents

A 46-year-old Newark man was found prowling behind a closed business at the 38000 block of Cherry Street, police said. He was arrested and booked at Fremont Jail.
