Pleas in Fatal Car Crash Case Pushed to June

Deshon Collier, 21, and Jabrie Watts, 20, both face charges of murder, burglary and receiving stolen property stemming from a car crash that occurred in late January.

Two men charged with murder related to a car crash that killed a Pleasanton man appeared at a Fremont courtroom last week, only to have their plea entries delayed for the third time.

Deshon Collier, 21, and Jabrie Watts, 20, both face charges of murder, burglary and receiving stolen property stemming from a home burglary that led to a fatal car crash, resulting in the deaths of two men.

They are scheduled to return to the Fremont Hall of Justice to enter a plea on June 21.

Collier and Watts were arrested Jan. 18 after police said they participated in a home burglary on Mistflower Avenue with a third suspect, crashed their car and tried to 

The third burglary suspect, , 20, suffered major head injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley two days after the collision.

Pleasanton resident , 69, was killed immediately after the suspects’ Chevy Malibu smashed into the two-door Honda Cheney was driving, police said. The Chevy rolled over on impact and into the parking lot of .

Collier’s attorney said before the pair’s that he believed the murder charge is inappropriate for Collier.

“We feel the murder charge is not appropriate for [Collier]. My client was not the driver,” Castillo told Newark Patch.

Neither Castillo nor authorities have released information regarding who was driving the Chevy Malibu at the time of the crash, which occurred at the intersection of Cherry Street and Mowry Avenue.

Both men are being held at Santa Rita Jail on no bail.
