Officers Search for Hit-and-Run Driver, Boy Arrested After Police Chase

This week, the Newark Police Deprtment also responded to a number of drunk driving incidents and shoplifting crimes.

A summary of calls made to Newark police March 1-8:

Incidents

Officers are searching for the driver who left the scene of a hit-and-run collision in the Community Center parking lot, near the tennis courts March 1. According to the police activity log, a white Honda Civic hit a Lincoln Mark VIII. No injuries were reported. Officers describe the Honda Civic driver as a 50-year-old man.

Officers arrested a teen and recovered a sawed-off shotgun from his backpack following a police chase from Madiera Liquor Store on Newark Boulevard to the neighborhood near Lido Court March 4.

Newark police helped Alameda County Fire crews who responded to a 2-alarm fire at the former Rasputin Music Store in the Mowry Crossing shopping center March 8.

Theft

Officers arrested a 54-year-old man in connection with a shoplifting incident at on Jarvis Avenue March 1.

The police activity log shows officers arrested a boy at Wintergreen Drive and Moorse Avenue for stealing itemsf out of a car parked at on March 4. Officers also responded to another shoplifting incident at on the same day.

Alcohol

On Feb. 28, officers arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of drunk driving incident at Mayhews Landing and Hazelnut Drive.

Officers pulled over a 26-year-old man for suspected drunk driving at Chelsea Drive and Winsford Court March 5.

Officers responded to suspected incidents at Albrae Street and Stevenson Boulevard as well as at Kaiser Drive and Ardenwood Boulevard on March 6.
