The Seattle Police Department delivered a medal to Newark resident David Ransom, the only known relative of an officer who earned a Medal of Honor.
The officer’s name was James L. Wells. He was killed in the line of duty when he was 38 years old more than 100 years ago.
David Ransom is the great grandson of Susie Wells Brown, the officer’s sister. Seattle PD recently held a ceremony to honor fallen officers; Ransom was not able to attend, so Newark Police's Honor Guard delivered it to him.
