Newark Police Seek “False Pretenses” Suspect

New check cashing scam hits Newark.

Police are asking the public to help them identify a woman who defrauded a man at the Bank of America in Newark.

Law enforcement officials say that on December 4 the woman in the photo above asked a man to help her cash a check. He did so and then gave her the cash, not knowing it would be pulled from his personal checking account, according to Newark Police. The man later discovered that the check he cashed was stolen, when his bank notified him that he had a negative balance in his account.

Anyone with information about the woman in the photo or this incident is asked to call Officer Saunders at 510-578-4918.  Anonymous tips can be left at 510-578-4000, extension 500.
