Newark Police Invite You to Join the Citizens Police Academy

The seven-week session will be held Wednesday nights.

Newark Police Department β€” The is seeking residents, as well as individuals who work within the city, to participate in our Citizen Police Academy.

The next Academy is scheduled to begin on Sept. 14, 2011. Sessions will be held every Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for seven weeks, with a graduation ceremony planned for Nov. 2, 2011.

Participants will meet primarily at ,Β 37101 Newark Blvd., although a few sessions require meeting at other local venues.

Our goal is to provide the community with a "behind-the-scenes" look at our department through a series of lectures, demonstrations, tours, and hands-on exercises.

  • Forgery/Fraud
  • Identity Theft
  • Patrol & Traffic Procedures
  • Firearms Familiarization
  • Gangs
  • Narcotics
  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • Canine/SWAT Programs

Applicants should:

  • Have no prior felony or serious misdemeanor convictions;
  • Be willing to have a background check completed;
  • Have the ability to attend all scheduled sessions;
  • Be at least 21 years old; and
  • Live or work in the City of Newark
