Newark Police Create Illegal Fireworks Hotline

The City of Newark allows the use of "safe and sane" fireworks from now through midnight on the night of July 4 on private property with the permission of property owners.

From the Newark Police Department:

Historically the Newark Police Department is very busy on July 4th responding to a large volume of service calls relating to the use of ILLEGAL fireworks. To help ease the influx of calls expected on this date, a “Fireworks Hotline” has once again been established. Please use this number to report ILLEGAL fireworks use.

The hotline will be staffed with personnel specifically to take these types of calls. This hot line is set up so that Public Safety Dispatchers can have free lines open for other emergency communication. So if you witness ILLEGAL fireworks on July 4, please use the Fireworks Hotline at 866/520-7233. Prior to this date please use the non-emergency line of 578-4237.

Reminder:

The City of Newark allows the use of Safe and Sane fireworks from midnight June 29 through midnight July 4th on private property with the permission of the property owner. Fireworks of any kind are prohibited in all city parks. City parks will close at 7:30 pm on July 4th. Anyone found to be in possession of or using illegal fireworks will be subject to arrest.
