Newark Motorcyclist Arrested for Felony Evasion

By Bay City News

A Newark motorcyclist was arrested on Friday after he allegedly sped away from a pursuing officer, police said. At around 2 p.m., a patrol officer tried to stop a motorcycle for speeding near the intersection of Mayhews Landing and Spruce Street, according to Newark police.

The motorcyclist fled the area at high speed and nearly hit pedestrians in the area, police said. The officer did not pursue the suspect, who was later identified as 38-year-old Andrew Danvers. The officer recognized the suspect and went to his residence, police said. During an interview, Danvers allegedly admitted to fleeing on his motorcycle, and investigators located a loaded handgun in his motorcycle bag, police said. The firearm was seized and Danvers was arrested for felony evasion. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.
