Newark Bicyclist Arrested After Pursuit

Police arrested Rudy Soto and found him to be wanted out of Sonoma County.

Police arrested a bicyclist following a brief pursuit on Thursday morning in Newark, police said. At about 10:20 a.m., police saw two bicyclists run a stop sign on Cherry Street near Mayhew Landing Road.

Officers initiated a traffic stop and one of the riders failed to yield. The other bicyclist complied and followed orders to stay on the curb. The fleeing bicyclist, Rudy Soto, 36, of Newark, fled on his bike and then on foot towards the side yard of a nearby residence, police said.

The officer quickly caught up to Soto as he was attempting to hide near a side gate.

Police discovered Soto was listed as a wanted person out of Sonoma County and was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Soto was arrested and transported Soto to Fremont Jail, where he was booked for the listed violations.
