NBD Pot Club Co-Founders Admit Guilt, Receive Lesser Penalties

The Argus reports that one co-founder was ordered to pay a six-figure fine and both co-founders were ordered to serve years on probation.

A pair of men who were facing dozens of charges as a result of operating a medical marijuana dispensary in Newark admitted guilt in court Thursday morning, according to a report by The Argus.

The men were co-founders of , which closed in early December – a little more than five months after the pot club that was located on Thornton Avenue was raided by state and local law enforcement.

Teddy Miller, of Salinas, pleaded guilty at the Fremont Hall of Justice to one count of maintaining a business to unlawfully sell or provide marijuana.

However, the charge is a "wobbler," a felony "that is expected to be reduced to a misdemeanor later," said James Roberts, a San Jose attorney representing several of the defendants.

Superior Court Judge Dennis McLaughlin ordered Miller to serve five days in county jail and five years of probation, and pay a $125,000 fine.

Bob Uwanawich, of Fremont, received a sentence of one day in county jail and three years of probation after he pleaded no contest to three misdemeanors tied to workers' compensation and unemployment insurance.

The report also noted that the charges three other affiliates of NBD Collective were dropped.
