Man Survives Plane Crash Near Dumbarton Bridge

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board were investigating a plane crash near the Dumbarton Bridge Saturday.

Bay City News - The pilot of a small plane survived after crashing into mud flats near the eastern end of the Dumbarton Bridge this afternoon, authorities said.

The pilot of a single-engine Cessna 140 reported a loss of engine power at about 12:40 p.m. after taking off from the Palo Alto Airport, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said.

Shortly afterward, the plane crashed into mud flats about a half-mile south of radio towers near Fremont and the Dumbarton Bridge, an Alameda County fire dispatcher said.

The pilot, the sole occupant of the plane, appears to have not been injured in the crash, Gregor said. The plane is registered to a Menlo Park man, but it is unknown whether he was the pilot of the aircraft.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash, Gregor said.

Firefighters from Fremont and San Mateo were also responding to the scene as of 1:45 p.m., the dispatcher said.
