Man Stabbed After Refusing to Buy Suspect a Beer

The man was treated at a hospital and released. Authorities are still searching for the suspect.

Police are searching for a man who they say stabbed a Newark man after the victim refused to buy him a beer at a Fremont pool hall late Wednesday night.

Authorities said officers were called to Los Dos Amigos Billiards on the 41000 block of Fremont Blvd. just before midnight.

Fremont Police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said the victim was sitting alone when the suspect sat next to him, wearing a black and gold Puma jersey of his favorite soccer team.

The two began talking about soccer, and the victim asked if he could take a photo with the jersey – a request that the suspect agreed to,  Bosques said.

At some point, the suspect asked the victim if he could buy him a beer but the victim refused, agitating the suspect, according to police.

Police said the victim reported that the suspect began yelling obscenities, resulting in the victim choking the suspect, dragging him outside and telling him to go home because he had too much alcohol. The victim left to go inside and when he came out of the bar minutes later, he found the suspect had left but vomit was on the concrete, Bosques said.

The victim went to get water and began washing off the vomit when he was struck by the victim, chased with a small folding knife and eventually stabbed on the arm before he fled back into the bar, Bosques said.

The victim was treated at a local hospital and released, but the suspect has not yet been detained, police said. Bosques said the two did not know each other before the night of the incident but that the victim noted that the suspect seemed extremely intoxicated.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-2 Hispanic male around 22 years of age of an average build. He was last seen wearing a black baseball style hate, white tank top and blue jeans, Fremont police said.

Police are not seeking charges against the victim for choking the suspect at this time, according to Bosques.
