Man Grabs Purse Near 99 Ranch Market, Girl Fights Mall Cops

In this week's crime log, Newark officers also investigate two home burglaries and help recover a gold 1991 Ford Mustang that was reported stolen.

A summary of calls made to Feb. 1–7

Burglary

 Officers responded to two residential burglaries this week. The activity log shows the first one was reported Tuesday at a home on the 37300 block of Wedgewood Street. Officers say someone entered the home through a sliding door at the back of the house, and the resident reported losing some jewelry.

The next residential burglary was reported early Thursday morning at a home on the 7200 block of Dairy Avenue. Officers say there were no signs of forced entry, and the resident reported losing a 32-inch Toshiba LCD television set.

Officers say a man and woman were looking for copper wire behind the businesses at 38505 Cherry St. Saturday morning.

Theft

According to officers, someone stole vehicle parts from a Honda S2000 that was parked in front of during the last weekend of January.

Officers arrested a 27-year-old Union City man in connection with a shoplifting incident at Wednesday night.

Two hours later, officers say, someone found a gold 1991 Ford Mustang on Timber Street that had been reported stolen to Fremont police.

Officers said a man snatched a woman’s purse in the parking lot of the , near the , Friday morning. Witnesses saw the man running away on Lido Boulevard, according to officers at the scene. Officers describe the suspect as a 20-year-old male wearing a white T-shirt and black pants.

Officers detained a male juvenile in connection with a shoplifting incident at the store Saturday night.

Officers say a female juvenile got into a fight with a mall security guard after she tried to run away with stolen merchandise from JC Penney on Sunday.

Other incidents

Officers investigated a hit-and-run collision at the intersection of Thornton Avenue and Cedar Boulevard Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday night, Newark officers worked with Fremont officers on the arrest of a 53-year-old man for failing to register as a sex offender for the fourth time.

The activity log shows officers arresting a 27-year-old Fremont man for spray-painting graffiti on an apartment complex on Sycamore Street Saturday.

According to the activity log, officers arrested two men in connection with a fight at early Sunday morning.
