Man Crashes Car After Threatening Girlfriend

Police said the Newark man told his girlfriend, a passenger, he was going to kill her.

A driver who intentionally crashed into another vehicle while his girlfriend sat next to him in the passenger seat was arrested Saturday morning, police said.

Authorities said police were called to the Home Depot parking lot shortly after 10:30 a.m. and learned that the man had purposely "ran into a vehicle after telling his girlfriend, who was a passenger, that he was going to kill her."

Police said the man, identified as Michael Mottram, 42, of Newark, also assaulted the woman.

Mottram was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, corporal injury to a spouse, making criminal threats, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and contempt of court, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office online database

He is being held at Santa Rita Jail on $155,000 bail and is scheduled for an arraignment on Wednesday afternoon at the Fremont Hall of Justice.
