13-Year-Old Boy Assaulted in Attempted Robbery

No arrests have been made.

Police are searching for a man who tried to rob a 13-year-old boy Sunday evening.

Newark police said the teenager was taking a trashcan out to the curb of his home on Lafayette Avenue when he was grabbed by a male suspect and hit in the head with an unknown object.

The boy’s pockets were checked but nothing was taken and the suspect proceeded to flee on foot, Newark police said. The teenager was not injured.

Police said the suspect was described as a black man who was last seen wearing a black sweater with red stripes on the sleeves.
