Man Arrested After Saturday Night Stabbing

Police say the victim is recovering after surgery.

A man was arrested late Saturday night after Newark police found that a person had been stabbed, police said.

As of Monday, the victim was still recovering from the incident after having undergone surgery, according to Commander Robert Douglas of the .

Police were called to Olive Street and Graham Avenue just after 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, to a call that was first reported as a shooting. Instead they learned a person had been stabbed, police records show.

Shortly after, police stopped a vehicle that fled the scene and arrested James Robert Shultz, 33.

Shultz was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon that is not a firearm, vandalism exceeding $400 and committing a felony connected to any criminal street gang, according to court records.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at the Fremont Hall of Justice at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Police did not release further information, and Douglas said the investigation is ongoing.
