Man Arrested After Pawnshop Armed Robbery Leads to Manhunt
Police said the suspect was arrested in Fremont after he ran from a moving vehicle
A man was arrested Friday in connection to an armed robbery of a Newark pawnshop after he bolted from a moving vehicle and ran into a Fremont neighborhood, prompting a manhunt, police said.
Authorities were called to Greenback Pawnbrokers on the 7100 block of Thornton Avenue in Newark after an armed robbery was reported around 3:40 p.m., according to a Newark police statement.
Shortly after, police said a vehicle believed to be involved in the armed robbery was spotted traveling northbound on Interstate 880.

Instead of yielding for police officers, the motorist slowed down north of the Decoto Road exit on the Newark-Fremont border, police said. A man then ran out of the moving vehicle and jumped over a fence into a Fremont neighborhood, authorities said.
Police officers from Newark, Fremont and Union City and an Eastbay Regional Park Police helicopter assisted in the search for the suspect and a 26-year-old man was ultimately arrested after he was found in a backyard on Santee Road in Fremont, police said.
