A man was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and threatening family members after a lengthy dispute Saturday afternoon.
Police were first called to the 37100 block of Saint Christopher Street in Newark around 4:45 p.m. Saturday after it was reported that the man was holding the family at gunpoint inside a locked bedroom in the home.
But while Newark police set up a perimeter and was waiting for Fremont police’s armored truck, Union City police received a call from the suspect’s wife that they had been in “an angry dispute” but were no longer at the Newark home, according to police. Shortly after, a victim called Union City police reporting she had been kidnapped and threatened at gunpoint by the suspect, police said.
Union City police located and arrested the suspect, who was identified by police as Maurice McMillian, 30, of Arkansas and Newark.
Newark police said McMillian had been visiting his family in Newark from Arkansas and after searching the Newark home on St. Christopher Street, the 9 mm handgun police say the suspect used during the aforementioned incidents was seized.
McMillian was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and homicidal threats and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
No injuries were reported.
