Jesus Arrested for Christmas Eve Heists

Video surveillance footage led to his arrest.

Two men named Jesus were arrested on Friday for stealing presents from families in Newark, California on Christmas Eve.

Police officers arrested Jesus Jimenez, 18; Jesus Jimenez, 18; Gurinder Singh, 18; and Victor Castro, 24 at about 7 p.m. on December 27 for stealing presents from three homes. At least one family awoke on Christmas Day to a barren tree, according to Newark Police.

Newark Police Officer Jeff Revay said the men stole presents that contained electronics, Coach handbags, and jewelry worth about $3,000. They tried to pawn the jewelry, according to Revay, which led to their apprehension. Authorities were alerted. Video surveillance footage was handed over.

What detectives saw on the video surveillance footage gave them enough evidence to get three search warrants. Officers were deployed and arrested the men at about 7 p.m. on Friday. During the search, police officers say they found a revolver, a semiautomatic handgun, and narcotics in the homes.

“It wasn’t all my work,” said Officer Revay. “It was a team effort,” Revay said.

Two minors were also taken into custody in connection to the heists and are also being charged with burglary and possession of stolen property. The men await their day in court.
