Newark residents tipped Patch off about heavy police activity in the area of Thornton Avenue and Cherry Street Saturday night, but police have no details to release at this time.
Police officials, however, did confirm that there is an ongoing investigation stemming from Saturday night's incident, but details about the investigation were not released.
Cmdr. Mike Carroll was not available for comment Sunday morning.
Passers-by noted that streets were closed off and police were seen on Thornton from Cherry Street to Mulberry Street. One reader indicated that a shooting might have occurred.
