Host a National Night Out Block Party Next Month

The annual event, to be held Aug. 6, aims to strengthen relationships in neighborhoods and raise crime awareness.

From the Newark Police Department:

National Night Out is being held on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 this year and is an annual nationwide event designed to strengthen relationships in your neighborhoods, raise crime prevention awareness, and continue relationships with public safety; Police, Fire, CERT, RAVEN Volunteers, and Ham Radio Operators.

The event has been held annually since 1984 and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada in coordination with the Newark Police Department.

All Newark citizens, neighborhoods, apartment complexes, townhouses, business, and shopping centers are invited and encouraged to participate. Hosting an event or block party is a simple way for people to meet, have fun, and explore how they might work together to improve the safety and quality of their neighborhood.

Contact the Community Engagement Division at (510) 578-4209 or (510) 578-4379 with questions or for more information on making your event successful and fun!

STREET CLOSURES/BLOCK PARTY

Residential neighborhoods and nonprofit organizations occasionally request permission to close a street or street segment for a special event. An encroachment permit can be issued for this purpose on a cul-de-sac and on other local residential streets, but there are limitations. Additional information regarding Street Closures/Block Parties can be located on the City of Newark website at permits. If additional information is needed contact Michael Carmen at (510) 547-4320. Deadline for permit filing is July 19, 2013.
