Homeless Man Killed in Hit-And-Run

Police said the man was hit by two cars by Highway 84 in Ardenwood.

A man died in a hit-and-run collision on the Fremont-Newark border just after 7:45 p.m. Monday night, police said.

The identity of the man has not been released, pending the notification of his family, according to an official with the Alameda County Coroner's Office. A report by The Arguss states that the man was 56 years old.

Fremont and Newark police officers were called near Highway 84 by Ardenwood to a report of a male being struck by a passing vehicle that was described as a silver SUV, police said. A witness who stayed on scene said the car was a 1995-2005 SUV similar to a RAV4.

The man, who was a transient, was struck by a second vehicle while he was down, according to a report from the Fremont police. Both vehicles fled the scene, police said.
