Two Dead After Fatal Collision in Fremont

The crash occurred at the intersection of Fremont Boulevard an Delaware Drive.

At least two people are dead and two others were injured after a multiple-vehicle crash in Fremont stalled traffic for hours, according to media reports.

According to the Argus, police believe that the crash occurred at the intersection of Fremont Boulevard at Delaware Street, which is 2.5 miles southeast of Newark, shortly after a driver of a Chevrolet Monte Carlo sped away to avoid being stopped after he saw an officer make a U-turn toward the direction of the Monte Carlo.

KTVU 2 reported that when the officer U-turned and tried to check the license plate of the vehicle, the driver of the silver Chevy Monte Carlo took off. Shortly after, the Monte Carlo collided with a Dodge Durango. A Ford pickup was also hit

Media reported that the Monte Carlo was pushed off the road and sent into a nearby canal.

The driver of the Monte Carlo, a 36-year-old man, and a 35-year-old woman who was a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

The names of the two people killed in the collision were not released, pending identifications to be confirmed by the Alameda County Coroner's Office.

Two other passengers in the Monte Carlo, a man and woman both 30 years of age, were transported a hospital and are in critical condition.

The driver of the Dodge was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and the two occupants of the Ford were unhurt.

Fremont police first released an alert about the fatal crash around 2:45 p.m. The investigation is ongoing but Fremont police told the Argus that it is confirmed that police were not pursuing the suspect vehicle and did not try to make a traffic stop before the incident.

Monday's fatal collision in Fremont comes less than a week after two people were killed .
