Drive-By Shooting Victim Identified
Deandre Jones, 22, was shot and killed early Saturday morning at the intersection of Thornton Avenue and Mulberry Street.
A Newark man killed in a drive-by shooting early Saturday morning has been identified as 22-year-old Deandre Jones, according to the Alameda County Coroner’s Office.
Newark police responded to a report of a drive-by shooting at the intersection of Thornton Avenue and Mulberry Street just after 4 a.m. Saturday.
Arriving officers found Jones suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was shot three times in his upper legs and arm, police said.

He succumbed to the wounds at a hospital later that morning.
A 22-year-old Castro Valley man was also injured in the shooting. He suffered a gunshot wound to his thigh but it was not life-threatening, police said.

Authorities are not yet sure if the drive-by was gang-related.
"We’re looking into all possibilities but there’s nothing that indicates that it was specifically gang-related," Cmdr. Mike Carroll told Patch.
