Woman Injured in Party Turned Violent

A woman was injured and a man was arrested around 2 a.m. Monday after an argument turned violent during a house party on the 36100 block of LaSalle Drive. Police said the 23-year-old Newark man, who they said was drunk, got into an argument, became upset and proceeded to throw a vacuum from the living room into the kitchen. The vacuum hit the woman on her arm and the man continued to punch glass objects within the house, while the party guests left. The woman was treated at the scene and the man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

A teenager was robbed and punched during a Saturday afternoon robbery behind a liquor store, police said. Three suspects confronted the 16-year-old boy behind off Newark Boulevard around 3 p.m. Saturday, punched him and stole his wallet, according to a Newark Police press release.

W Hotel off Gateway Boulevard in Newark was evacuated for nearly an hour on Sunday afternoon after police found a suicide victim around 1:30 p.m. who had placed several notes that warned others not to enter the hotel room the victim was located in. Authorities conducted the evacuation as a precaution when they came to believe the incident was a suicide by chemicals.

Stolen Car Found on Fire at Junior High

A 45-year-old woman called Newark police just after midnight Sunday after she learned her car was stolen while she was watching a movie at Cinedome 7. During that same time, police were called to Newark Junior High School after a car caught fire. Police said that car turned out to be the stolen vehicle. An investigation is ongoing.

Teen Sits on Passenger Side Window of Moving Vehicle

 An 18-year-old Newark man was arrested after police spotted a car “driving erratically” on Newark Boulevard at Cedar Boulevard and 11:15 p.m. Saturday and saw that his passenger, a 17-year-old, was outside the car, seated on the window frame while the car “weaved in and out of traffic,” police said. The 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving and child abuse and was booked into Santa Rita Jail and the 17-year-old was cited for not wearing a seatbelt.

Man Attempts to Steal Coin Machine

A 33-year-old Newark man was arrested after police responded to the 37200 block of Oak Street around 9:40 a.m. Saturday to a report of a burglary of a coin machine inside of an apartment complex’s laundry room. Police said the man tried to open the machine but that the owners caught him, he fled but was located, arrested on suspicion of burglary and booked into Fremont Jail.

Man Rides Up to Home on Stolen Motorcycle

A 38-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property after police officers who were investigating a reported burglary saw the man, who is on probation, riding up on a Harley Davidson motorcycle on Wintergreen Drive around 5 p.m. Friday and found that the motorcycle had been stolen out of San Leandro. The man was booked into Fremont Jail.

Burglary and Theft

A 49-year-old homeless man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and a felony warrant after officers responded to a theft at around 4 p.m. Friday. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

A 49-year-old Newark man was arrested and cited on suspicion of petty theft and petty theft with a prior arrest for theft out of just before 2 p.m. Friday.

A 36-year-old Union City man was arrested on suspicion of possession of burglary tools Thursday after police officers saw him sitting in a vehicle on Bonnie Street around 9:25 p.m. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

A 30-year-old homeless woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and being a felon in possession of tear gas after being pulled over on Thornton Avenue at Walnut Street around 7:30 a.m. Monday. She was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

Drugs and Alcohol

A 21-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and driving without a license after police were called to Wells Avenue to find a reckless driver. An officer found the motorist and witnessed him almost hit a parked vehicle. The man was booked into Fremont Jail.

A 33-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, possession of drugs, driving on a suspended license and for a warrant around 2:20 a.m. Saturday. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

A 49-year-old Fremont man was arrested on suspicion of possession of dangerous drugs during a traffic stop on Cedar Boulevard around 8 p.m. Thursday and was booked into Fremont city Jail.

Traffic Violations and Incidents

A 28-year-old Newark man was arrested 1:25 p.m. Friday after police responded to an injury vehicle collision on Cedar Boulevard at Thornton Avenue. The man was arrested and cited on suspicion of driving on a suspended license.
