Fire Damages Home, Displaces Five Residents

A one-alarm fire damaged a home on the 36000 block of Haley Street. Fire officials said the fire, which sparked around 3:37 p.m. on Sunday, originated from a bedroom and spread quickly. Five people escaped the house fire without injury, but the home sustained major damage, authorities said. For the full report, .

Man Accidentally Shows Off Fake Police Sirens In Front of Cops

A 35-year-old San Jose man was arrested around 11:05 a.m. on Sunday after he unknowingly activated his air horn and police siren in front of the police department’s entire shift while driving his pick-up truck on Elm Street. The man was arrested on suspicion of giving false information to a peace officer and activation and unauthorized vehicle equipped with a siren.

Driver Tries To Evade Police, Collides Into Center Divider

A driver who was being pursued by officers with the Menlo Park Police Department and California Highway Patrol collided with a center divider when exiting Mowry Avenue near around 11 p.m. on Saturday. Police said authorities were chasing after the vehicle because it was determined to be involved in a weapons brandishing incident in San Mateo County. Newark police investigated the collision, which did not involve any other vehicles and the suspect was arrested by outside agencies.

Man Hits Parked Car, Damages Apartment Building

A 32-year-old man was arrested after police responded to 37300 block of Cherry Street around 7:55 p.m. on Friday to find that a driver had hit a parked car that was then pushed into an apartment’s building’s support beams. Police saw the man running toward Albyn Court and arrested him on suspicion of a hit and run and driving with a suspended license. Newark building inspectors examined the damage and deemed the complex inhabitable due to the damage.

Man Called Out Of Motel Room He Didn’t Pay For

A 36-year-old homeless man who is a parolee was arrested on suspicion of defrauding an innkeeper and possession of drug paraphernalia after officers were called to to a report of a man staying inside of a room he didn’t pay for around 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Police surrounded the area and called the man out and he was arrested without incident. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

Police Seize Four Firearms After Domestic Violence Report

Police arrested a 31-year-old Newark man on suspicion of domestic violence after a victim of a domestic violence incident came to the Newark Police Department Station around 6:14 p.m. on Jan. 10. During the investigation and a search of a home on Olive Street, police officers seized four firearms from the suspect. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

Duo Arrested in Child Pornography Sweep

Two Newark men were arrested Wednesday as part of a child pornography sweep in which four Tri-City residents were arrested on suspicion of possession or distribution of child pornography. The Newark men were identified by authorities as Chen Yu Huang, 21, and Miguel Angel Mendoza, 30. The two were booked into Santa Rita Jail. .

Elderly Man Reported Missing

Police are still searching for an 81-year-old man named Jude Hunter who was last seen around noon on Jan. 10 near MacArthur Boulevard and 106th Avenue in Oakland. Hunter was supposed to board a bus to return to his care home in Newark but did not board the vehicle. He is described as a 5-foot-11 black man that weighs around 180 pounds. for the full report.

Woman Carjacked, Sexually Assaulted

A 26-year-old transient was arrested on Jan. 9 and is facing various charges after a report of a carjacking, kidnapping and attempted rape occurred around 10 p.m. in the Lake district. Police said a 22-year-old woman was inside of her car on Darvon Street when the man pointed a gun at her, drove off with her in the car, sexually assaulted her, then abandoned her in a residential area where she proceeded to contact police. Assaults and Batteries 

A 53-year-old man and 32-year-old woman, both of Newark, were arrested on suspicion of domestic violence around 9 a.m. on Jan. 10 after police investigated a domestic violence incident that occurred on Landis Place. The two were booked into Santa Rita Jail.

Burglary and Theft

A 21-year-old man from Wichita, Kansas was arrested on suspicion of robbery after he fought with loss prevention personnel from and at who were trying to arrest him on suspicion of theft around 3:21 p.m. on Saturday. The man was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

A 21-year-old Fremont woman was arrested on suspicion of petty theft at at around 12:10 p.m. on Saturday.

A 31-year-old Tracy resident was arrested and cited on suspicion of petty theft from at l around 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

A 21-year-old San Francisco resident and 22-year-old Oakland resident were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting from the store at around 5:50 p.m. on Wednesday.

Drugs and Alcohol

A 27-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license around 2:35 a.m. on Sunday at Cedar Boulevard and Moores Avenue. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

A 28-year-old Fremont man was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication during a security check at around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

A 76-year-old Newark man was arrested and cited on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs after it was reported that a driver was driving erratically around Willow Street at about 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday. The man was released to a family member.

Miscellaneous

A 25-year-old man was arrested for outstanding warrants after police responded to a report of a disturbance on the 6500 block of Fountaine Avenue around 12:55 p.m. on Wednesday. He was booked into Fremont Jail.
