Curiosity Leads to One Man’s Arrest

Police were conducting a traffic stop when a 52-year-old Newark man approached them on his bicycle around 3:30 a.m. to find out what was happening. The man, however, ended up being arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of dangerous drugs. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

Newark police responded to the 39600 block of Locust Street, off of Thornton Avenue and west of Sycamore Street, to a report of shots fired just before 9 p.m. Thursday. Authorities said they found several bullets struck a home and two parked vehicles, according to a press release. No injuries were reported.

A man was arrested after he reportedly chased his father with a knife and threatened to kill him, Newark police said. The 23-year-old Newark man was arrested Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and making terrorist threats after police were called to the area of Olive Street and Thornton Avenue around 10:30 a.m. when they received a call that a man was chasing another man to the with a knife. The incident prompted a three-hour SWAT standoff before the man was arrested.

Drunken Man Tosses Bicycles off Balcony

A 20-year-old Oakland man was arrested after police were called to the 6200 block of Graham Avenue to a report of a drunken person “pounding on people’s doors” and “throwing bicycles off a balcony” just before 11 p.m. Monday. The man was arrested and cited on suspicion of public drunkenness and vandalism.

Burglary and Theft

A 22-year-old Oakland man was arrested and cited on suspicion of petty theft out of , 5401 Thornton Ave., around 4:05 p.m. Sunday.

Drugs and Alcohol

A 21-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence on Ruschin Drive around 2:05 a.m. Sunday.

A 54-year-old homeless man was arrested on suspicion of possession of dangerous drugs around 9:15 p.m. Saturday after police were conducting a security check at a business on Dumbarton Court. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

A 19-year-old Fremont man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence around 2 a.m. Saturday near Thornton Avenue and Arden Street and was booked into Fremont Jail.

A 25-year-old Berkeley man and a 26-year-old San Pablo man were arrested on suspicion f public drunkenness when Newark police were called to the on the 8200 block of Gateway Boulevard around 1:20 a.m. Saturday. They were booked into Fremont Jail.

A 53-year-old Mountain View man was arrested and cited on suspicion of driving under the influence and with an open container just after 8 p.m. Tuesday near Hyacinth Street and Mistflower Avenue. His passenger, a 30-year-old Newark man, was also cited and released for a warrant.

Traffic Accidents and Violations

A 36-year-old Newark man was arrested and cited on suspicion of a hit and run when police followed up on the investigation on the 6100 block of Potrero Drive around 10:10 p.m. Friday.

Miscellaneous

A 55-year-old homeless man was arrested on suspicion of violating a restraining order and threatening a police officer with violence when police responded to around 11:15 p.m. Sunday to a report of a disturbance. The man was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

Police responded to the 6100 block of Robertson Avenue to a report of a possible attempted stabbing around 9:15 a.m. Sunday but the report was unfounded. While responding, they encountered a 39-year-old Newark woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and she was cited and released.

A 29-year-old Newark woman who was wanted by Newark police was arrested on suspicion of her warrants and possession of dangerous weapons after police located her near on the 6900 block of Thornton Avenue around 5:10 p.m. Friday. She was booked into Fremont Jail.

A 45-year-old Newark man was arrested when police issued a warrant service on the 4900 block of Stafford Place around 2:45 p.m. Friday. He was also arrested on suspicion of violating a restraining order and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
