The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Newark between Dec. 23 and Dec. 29 as released by the Newark Police Department. 

SUNDAY, DEC. 23 

Pedestrian Robbed of Wallet at Gunpoint

A man was walking along Mayhews Landing Road near Christine Street around 8:30 p.m. when an unknown two-door, green vehicle driven by a female approached him. A man then got out of the passenger side of the vehicle, threatened the man with a handgun and took the victim’s wallet. The pair of suspects fled north on Christine Street.

Two women were arrested on suspicion of robbery after police officers were called to JC Penney around 11:30 p.m. after it was reported that a 33-year-old woman and a 32-year-old woman had stolen items from the store. Police said that the 33-year-old woman scratched and punched a security officer in the face and then the 32-year-old woman “decided to bite” that loss prevention officer and then ran away to a car that wouldn’t start. The two women suspects then fled on foot but were eventually found and arrested.

MONDAY, DEC. 24

Arizona Man Shoplifts at NewPark Mall

A 24-year-old man from Arizona was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting out of JC Penney at NewPark Mall at 2:15 p.m.

TUESDAY, DEC. 25

Pedestrian Caught with Meth

A 29-year-old Newark man was stopped by an officer while walking near Dairy Avenue and was eventually arrested on suspicion of methamphetamine.

Drunken Driver Arrested; Drunk Pedestrian Found in Mall Parking Lot

A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving around 3:40 p.m. Just after midnight, a 43-year-old Newark man was found “stumbling through” the Macy’s parking lot and was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public.

THURSDAY, DEC. 27

Shoplifter Caught at Macy’s

An 18-year-old San Lorenzo man was arrested on suspicion of petty theft out of Macy’s around 7 p.m.

FRIDAY, DEC. 28

Man Attacks Police Officer

A 38-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, battery on an officer, resisting arrest and vandalism after an incident that sparked after his vehicle was being towed around 2 p.m.

 SATURDAY, DEC. 29

Wanted Felon Found Sleeping in Vehicle

A homeless woman who is listed as a wanted person out of the Santa Clara Sheriff’s Office was found sleeping inside of her vehicle around 4:20 p.m. Police said the woman is wanted on suspicion of “multiple felony violations” and was also arrested on suspicion of possession of meth.
