Crime Log: Shots Fired on Birch Street; Home Burglaries

A summary of incidents reported in Newark from March 1 to March 2.

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Newark between March 1 and March 2 as released by the Newark Police Department.

FRIDAY, MARCH 1

Two arrested after reports of shots fired

Officers responded to two calls of shots fired within a half hour at around 4:50 p.m. in the area of Birch Street and Peppertree Court. One of the callers said the shots came from a home on the 38400 block of Birch Street. Additional information also led officers to a home on the 6000 block of Moores Avenue.

Bullet casings were found in front of the Birch Street home and a neighboring driveway, but there were no gunshot victims.

After some negotiations, both homes were cleared of residents.  A 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and a 20-year-old was arrested for an unrelated warrant.

Home burglaries

A home on the 35900 block of Argonne Drive was ransacked by burglars between 10:50 a.m. and 1 p.m. Two computers and credit cards were stolen.

Thieves smashed a rear sliding glass door and burglarized a home on the 6200 block of Quicksilver Avenue. The burglary occurred between 12:20 p.m. and 4:05 p.m.

Car stolen

A car was stolen from a home on the 37200 block of Cherry Street between 2:30 p.m. and midnight. The car was a four-door 1998 Chevy Malibu with California license plate #4BFC199.

SATURDAY, MARCH 2

Stolen vehicle

A green 1996 four-door Saturn SL was stolen from the 36600 block of Bonnie Street. The car has a California license plate of 6TAW974.
