Crime Log: Warrant Arrests; Bicyclists Injured; Burglaries
National Night Out reminder, and more incidents July 7 to 13.
Saturday, July 13
- Seventy-three-year-old musician attacked after dedicating song to Trayvon Martin at Hayward Blues Festival. Story here.
- Residents encouraged to participate in Aug. 6 National Night Out. The annual nationwide event strengthens neighborhoods, raises crime prevention awareness, and enhance relationships with police, fire and other agencies. Details here.
- Warrant round-up. A Newark man, 31, was arrested for a warrant at 1:22 p.m. on Ruschin Avenue. A Newark male, 30, self-surrendered at 2:18 p.m. for two warrants. And at 11:49 p.m., a Hayward male, 26, was arrested on warrant charges.
- Crime on Concord Street. An attempted residential burglary on Concord Street was reported close to 3 p.m. Suspects threw spark plug chips at a window in an unsuccessful attempt to break in. No loss found.
- Suspected package thief arrested. Refugio Aldama, a 27-year-old transient, was arrested after a citizen tip. Story here.
- Two bicyclists struck by car on Newark Boulevard and Ruschin Drive. The bicyclists were injured but police did not release details. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Details here.
- Scrappin' with security. Police were called at 10 p.m. to BJ’s Brewery on Mowry Avenue where a customer was fighting with a security guard. Two arrests were made: a Madera male, 33, for two outstanding felony warrants; a Madera male, 33, for public intoxication.
"Helpful" boyfriend gets DUI. A Fremont officer on I-880 at 1 a.m. was approached from behind by a vehicle travelling at an estimated 90 mph. The driver was stopped and became belligerent, stating he was going to help his girlfriend who lived in Pleasanton and was in distress. He had not contacted Pleasanton Police, he said, as "only he could help." Officers contacted the girlfriend -- an ex -- who said she was okay and she had no idea what he was talking about. The motorist, a 40-year-old Lodi man, smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and was arrested for DUI.

- Warrant collars. A homeless male, 48, was arrested at 2:14 a.m. on an outstanding warrant at Newpark Plaza. And at 1 p.m., a Newark man, 42,was arrested for a felony warrant on Peachtree Avenue.
