  • Gang, guns on Mulberry and George. Five males were arrested for suspected gang-enhanced assaults with deadly weapon after an incident at 3:50 p.m. on George Avenue and Mulberry Street. According to witnesses at the scene, several males got out of a maroon pickup and confronted a rival gang member, with one pulling out a gun and threatening to shoot the rival, who fled on foot. The maroon Ford left the area, but was spotted on Cherry Street where police conducted a high-risk stop. Arrested were males, all from Newark, ages 20, 20, 19, 18 and 17. The 17-year-old was also arrested for alleged transportation of methamphetamine and possession of meth for sales. Two bullets were located where the incident occurred, police said. Search warrants were also executed at the gang members’ houses, where additional evidence was located.

  • Man badly beaten near Thornton Avenue bar. A male was found on a sidewalk at 11:40 p.m. unconscious and bleeding from the nose and mouth, with several teeth lying next to him, by a Jacques Cafe and Lounge employee. The Fremont male, 55, reportedly used a wrench to undo transmission-linkage bolts on cars in the lot. As owners attempted to drive away, the automatic gearshifts would not work properly, and in stepped the "mechanic" who said could fix the cars for a "small cash fee" of $65. After the deal was made, the man would reach underneath the vehicle and complete the fix in minutes. One victim called police and the suspect, despite attempting to conceal the wrench, was arrested.
