Crime Log: Man Stabbed on Birkdale Drive; Man Slaps Neighbor in Face

Brief reports on crimes that occurred in Newark from Sept. 24-30

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Newark between Sept. 24 and Sept. 30 as released by the Newark Police Department.

MONDAY, SEPT. 24

A 41-year-old Newark woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and destruction of evidence just before 10:30 p.m. She was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 25

An 18-year-old Fremont woman was arrested and cited on suspicion of petty theft out of JC Penney’s at NewPark Mall around 2:50 p.m.

A 25-year-old Newark man was arrested and cited on suspicion of drunken driving after a rollover accident occurred on Mayhews Landing Road and Bettencourt Street just before 11 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 26

Two vehicles were found burglarized in the parking lot of Hilton Hotel on Balentine Drive around 6:40 a.m. Authorities said the burglar(s) smashed the vehicles’ windows.

A 48-year-old Fremont resident was arrested on suspicion of burglary out of Macy’s at NewPark Mall around 12:50 p.m.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 27

Several apartments and vehicles parked along the 36000 block of Cherry Street were found marked with orange spray paint just before 8 a.m.

A 45-year-old Union City woman was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting out of JC Penney’s at NewPark Mall around 11:20 a.m.

Two vehicles were found burglarized in the BJ’s Restaurant parking lot just before 9 p.m. Windows of the vehicles were found smashed.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 28

A 23-year-old Fremont man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after police were called to Thornton Avenue and Interstate 880 to a report of a driver passed out behind the weel just before 2:30 a.m.

Coins from a laundry room on the 5300 block of Saint Mark Avenue were reported stolen around 1 p.m.

A stolen rental vehicle from Hertz was reported just before 2 p.m.

A 54-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of possession of meth on the 5600 block of Wintergreen Avenue around 7:50 p.m.

A vehicle was found burglarized in the NewPark Mall parking lot around 8 p.m.

A 21-year-old Newark man was arrested after police said he slapped a neighbor in the face during a neighbor dispute on Ash Street just before 8:30 p.m. The man was arrested on suspicion of battery.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 29

Green Food and Liquor on the 5900 block of Mowry Avenue was found burglarized just before 3 a.m. Police said the burglar(s) entered by breaking the front glass door.

A minor was caught shoplifting from Zumiez at NewPark Mall around 1 p.m.

An 18-year-old Stockton man was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting out of JC Penney’s at NewPark Mall around 3:15 p.m.

A 35-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after a man was found stabbed on Birkdale Drive around 11:11 p.m. Click here for the full report.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 30

A 20-year-old Newark woman was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving near Thornton Avenue and Ash Street around 3:30 a.m.
