Drunken Motorist Crashes

A 23-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after an officer witnessed a motorist get into a solo-vehicle accident at Cherry Street and Plummer Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Police the Newark man was arrested, cited and released to a sober friend.

Drunken Duo Caught Trying to Sleep off Alcohol in Vehicle

A 67-yearold man and a 20-year-old man were arrested after authorities were called to investigate a suspicious vehicle in town around 11:50 p.m. Friday. Police said the pair, who are from East Palo Alto appeared to be trying to “sleep off their alcohol” due to the Dumbarton Bridge closure. Both were arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and the man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a crack pipe. The two were booked into Santa Rita Jail.

Homeless Warned to Move

Police warned four homeless people to move out of the area behind homes on of Jarvis Avenue and Lake Boulevard where officers also located them on Friday  “along with at least 40-50 gallons for collected urine”  Authorities said Caltrans will also be contacted for trash removal.

Anti-Abuse Advocate Arrested for Outstanding Child Abuse, Domestic Abuse Warrant

An Oakland man wanted on suspicion of child abuse and domestic violence was arrested Friday after trying to raise money for abused children and women, police said. Man Attempts to Steal Rings from Jewelry Store

A 21-year-old Castro Valley man was arrested Wednesday evening after police said he tried to steal two rings from a jewelry store at NewPark Mall. Authorities said officers were called to Diamonds by Chainary at the mall around 6:40 p.m. after the man asked to see two rings then fled from the store once he had the jewelry in his hands. NewPark Mall security and a story employee detained the suspect until police arrived, Newark police said. The man was arrested on suspicion of grand theft and was booked into Fremont Jail.

Assault and Battery

A 33-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of battery and making terrorist threats after police responded to Millwood Court to a report of a disturbance just before 10 p.m. Thursday. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

Burglary and Theft

A 31-year-old Fremont man was arrested for a felony stolen vehicle warrant and on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia at Ash Street and Sunset Avenue around 2:20 p.m Sunday and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

A 49-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of petty theft out of Raley’s grocery store just before 4 p.m. Saturday and was booked into Santa Rita Jail. Two others, a 60-year-old man and 48-year-old woman, were arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary out of Ralay’s at that same time.

A 30-year-old San Rafael woman was arrested for two outstanding felony warrants related to identity theft and possession of stolen property after police investigated a disturbance at E-Z 8 Motel around 9:30 a.m. Friday and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

A 25-year-old Fremont woman was arrested on suspicion of theft from Macy’s at NewPark Mall and was booked into Santa Rita Jail around 4:40 p.m. Thursday.

A 57-year-old Oakland man was arrested on suspicion of petty theft with priors after police responded to Macy’s at NewPark Mall around 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

An attempted burglary of a vehicle parked in the lot of BJ’s Restaurant was reported around 2:10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28 but nothing was reported stolen.

A 53-year-old woman was arrested Monday, Aug. 27 after police responded to Macy’s at NewPark Mall just before 2 p.m. Authorities said the woman took $460 worth of merchandise. She was arrested and cited on suspicion of petty theft.

Drugs and Alcohol

A 52-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication after police were called to investigate a domestic dispute at a Cherry Street apartment complex. Police said the man tried to hide in the lobby of a nearby business but was eventually arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

A 19-year old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and driving without a license after officers responded to a non-injury crash on Thornton Avenue and Newark Boulevard around 9 a.m. Saturday and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

A 27-year-old Oakland man was arrested for outstanding warrants and his companion, a 20-year-old Stockton woman, was arrested after police found 13 ecstasy pills in her pure at the Motel 6 around 3 a.m. Saturday. The woman was booked into Fremont Jail.

A 20-year-old Union City man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after police conducted a traffic stop at Thornton Avenue and Interstate 880 around 2:20 a.m. Saturday. Police said they also found “cocaine, cash and other dope related items” inside of the man’s car.

A 43-year-old Milpitas man was arrested for an outstanding $50,000 warrant for possession of methamphetamine and was booked into Fremont Jail.

A 28-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after a traffic stop on Thornton Avenue near Interstate 880 around 1:50 a.m. Wednesday.

A 38-year-old Menlo Park man was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication after officers responded to a medical emergency reported at NewPark Mall around 8:40 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27.

Miscellaneous

A 43-year-old Newark man and a 20-year-old Newark woman were arrested just before 8 a.m. Sunday after police responded to the 6500 block of Dairy Avenue. The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of an illegal weapon while the woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine and possession of an illegal weapon. The pair were arrested and booked into Fremont Jail.

A 32-year-old Los Gatos man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an illegal knife around 9:30 p.m. Thursday and was booked into Fremont Jail.

A 26-year-old Fremont man was arrested after police responded to the 35800 block of Orleans Drive last week. Authorities said it was reported that the man was at the home around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28  causing a disturbance and responding officers detained him in the front yard. He was arrested and booked into Fremont Jail on suspicion of making death threats and a temporary restraining order was served.

A 35-year-old man was found unconscious after police were called to the 37000 block of Mulberry Street around 8:20 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27. Police said the man was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital as a result of pre-existing medical conditions despite officers' efforts to revive him.

Vandalism

Officers responded to Arteaga’s on the 5500 block of Thornton Avenue around 4:10 p.m. Monday after someone reported that the business had been vandalized with black spray paint. 

A window of a vehicle parked at the Community Center on the 35500 block of Cedar Boulevard was found smashed around 3:10 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27.
