Crime Log: Haller's Pharmacy Robbed; Smash-N-Grabs; Warrant Woes

Gang shooting, Chipotle window shattered, and more from March 24 to 30.

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Newark between March 24 and 30 as released by the Newark Police Department.

  • Second stick-up at a Haller's in three weeks.  Two armed men held up employees and stole prescription medication at Haller's Pharmacy at 1:16 p.m. on the 6100 block of Thornton Avenue. The Fremont Haller's, on the 37300 block of Fremont Boulevard, was . Last week's Newark suspects were described as black males -- both reportedly about 6'4" tall, one with a thin build, and the other heavier. They carried semi-automatic pistols, wore black, hooded sweatshirts and had bandanas covering their faces. The pair fled in a white, four-door vehicle with tinted windows. 
  • Gang shooting. An 18-year-old man was shot in the abdomen at 2:21 a.m. on Civic Terrace Avenue in what police suspect was a gang-related attack. Transported to Washington Hospital by friends before officers arrived at the scene, the victim is expected to fully recover. The Major Crimes Task Force is investigating.

  • Warrant. A Newark man, 26, was cited at 11:44 p.m. in front of his home near Rosewood and Ruschin drives for an outstanding warrant for drug-paraphernalia charges. He was issued a new court date.

Tuesday, March 26

  • More warrant woes. A Newark man, 19, was arrested on felony-burglary warrant charges at 7:29 p.m. on the 37100 block of San Antonio Street. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail. 
  • Domestic assault. A Newark man, 43, was arrested for suspected domestic battery at 7:40 p.m. on the 37300 block of Hill Street. A judge issued an Emergency Protective Order for the victim. The suspect was booked at .

Monday, March 25

  • Smash-n-grabs. Two vehicular burglaries were reported -- one at 8:41 p.m. on 37100 Hickory Street, and the other 10:59 p.m. on 6500 Overlake Place. The rear passenger window was smashed in the Hickory Street vehicle; loss was not yet determined. The car window was also broken in the Overlake incident and a purse stolen.
  • More graffiti damage. Police and residents near Mayhews Landing Road and the railroad tracks painted over another batch of graffiti discovered around 1 p.m. This latest case is under investigation, with police coordinating with the Fremont Street Crimes unit regarding similar tagging in that city.

Sunday, March 24

  • Two shoplifting arrests. A Newark man, 46, was cited for suspected shoplifting of groceries at 4:21 p.m. at Raley's. In a separate incident, a Fremont woman, 20, was busted for alleged theft at 7:07 p.m. at the NewPark Mall Sears store. 
  • Chipotle window smashed. Officers responded to a 4:47 a.m. alarm at Chipotle Mexican Grill where a front window was smashed. Investigations were underway to determine any loss.
