Crash Near NewPark Mall Ties Up Morning Commute

Officers say a driver veered off the road and hit a pole in front of Citibank on Mowry Avenue Tuesday morning.

Newark Police said a single-vehicle crash on Mowry Avenue near Tuesday morning was caused by the driver losing control of hr vehicle.

Sgt. Ray Hoppe said officers received calls about the crash near Alpenrose Court about 8 a.m. 

The female driver lost control, veered off the roadway and then slammed into a pole in front of , said Hoppe.

According to Hoppe, the driver was able to walk away from the scene.

“The claims about a hit-and-run driver were not substantiated,” Hoppe said. “I had my traffic experts out there to confirm that."

Connie Goodwin with Cash Call Towing said the driver felt something nudge her car forward as she tried to make a U-turn on Mowry Avenue.

“By the time she gained control, she hit that pole and then ran into the tree,” Goodwin said. “She said her neck hurt a bit.”

It took officers and Goodwin less than an hour to clean up the crash scene and tow the vehicle out of the intersection.
