Newark Burglary Suspect Injured In Crash That Killed Pleasanton Man Has Died

Police confirmed Monday that Rajwaun Watkins, 20, succumbed to his injuries Friday night.

A Newark burglary suspect who was critically injured following a fatal collision that left a Pleasanton man dead has died, Newark police confirmed Monday morning.

Rajwaun Watkins was pronounced dead Friday night by medical staff at the Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley where he was being treated. He was 20.

An outpour of condolences for the man who is believed to have lived in Oakland and Hayward were expressed on Twitter and in comments on Patch over the weekend.

“RIP Rajwaun watkins Gone to soon!! Rest in paradise,” wrote one Twitter user. Another read, “Rip Rajwaun Ilove yu && I will 4ever cherish our memories.”

 “He WAS nice. He WAS intelligent. And he IS loved,” Patch reader Char Jones wrote in a previous article.

Watkins died after being treated at Eden Medical for several days.

Police said Watkins suffered from head trauma in the Wednesday crash after the Chevy Malibu he and two other passengers were in collided with a two-door Honda. The Honda driver, 69-year-old Robert Cheney of Pleasanton, was prounounced dead at the scene. 

Newark police identified Watkins and the other two occupants of the Chevy Malibu as suspects of a home burglary that occurred mid-block of Mistflower Drive around 9:54 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said the other two suspects remain in police custody on parole and probation violations.
