Letter to the Editor: Vote No on Propositions 30 and 38

One local resident asks others to join him in saying 'no to new taxes'

By David Springsteen

Say no to new taxes on November 6th.

Californians pay some of the highest taxes in the nation and every election the major focus of the politicians is to target our wallets.

The pro tax politicians and unions hide behind threats to public safety, and cuts in education in deceptive campaigns to go after more and more of our money. They never address the real problem, that being the need to reduce and reform the burdensome, and overbearing government bureaucracy. Every election, they claim crisis is inevitable, and use fear to manipulate voters into increasing our taxes. Interestingly enough, fiscal crisis has never been successfully averted through the increase of government revenue, and California has remained  in a continual state of economic decline.

Insuring increased  revenue for the politicians will never force them to stop wasting taxpayer dollars or practice fiscal responsibility. It will only allow them to maintain their current perpetual course of action.

Let’s put a stop to all new taxes this election and hold  government accountable for all of the money they already claim from us.

Vote no on 30 and 38.

David,
We are with you on this one, and my wife said I could say so! No on both from both.

A yes vote for prop 30 ends cuts to the current public education funding. A yes vote for prop 38 brings in much needed additional funding for public education. A yes/yes vote for these propositions tells politicians that we intend to turn our failing public education system around and we are demanding logical, sufficient, and stable funding for public education. A yes/yes vote says that we are demanding real, systematic change in support of high quality K-12 Public Education. A yes/yes vote says that fundraising for everything from teachers to toilet paper in not the answer to fixing our Public Education in California.

Prop. 30 does not actually guarantee that the money will be spent on education
Mom of Four November 6, 2012 at 03:12 am
When you get rid of tenure and base teacher's raises on merit not a union contract, then I will consider giving more money to California schools.
Mona Taplin November 6, 2012 at 03:13 am
If you read the proposition itself instead of just what the advertising says about 30, you will quickly see that it gives no guarantee that any of the money or even a certain percentage of the money will go towards education. That's why I voted NO on all tax increase things on the ballot. If Jerry Brown really is concerned about our schools, he should not have signed the bill to spend multi millions of dollars on fast rail, while at the same time cutting way back on funds for education. I call it fast rail because it's a fast way to see our tax dollars speed down the drain.
David Springsteen November 10, 2012 at 12:07 am
I under stand the cuts and how it affects the schools and believe education is important.
The problem is the elected officials in sac continue to hold the schools hostage. Governor Brown created a budget that relied on a new tax that he knew he could get because of planned cuts to education. The teachers union would fund the new tax campaign playing into the fear of education and public safety cuts. This is not leadership this seems criminal to me. Now that it has passed the upper end of the tax will affect business and some will close and leave. The new revenue will not meet expectations and the cycle continues. When was the last time a ballot came around without a new tax on it? I can't recall. They continue to milk California and it's drying up. Some reform is needed and the priorities need to be aligned.

Oh this opens up NMHS like a can of worms. There have been suspicions of this for years regardingRead More Rich Swift at the annual Crab Feed, Margaret Jean at the 4th of July Fireworks sales, Stacey Kelly snackshack, and how about Edna, shes always at the gate taking the money. Im glad someone with balls is getting this out in the public. Yes, the money needs to be counted and deposited by a committee and not the individual in charge as has been the case for many years. While were on the subject of NMHS, what about the rumors that Rich Swift threw away letters from colleges for prospective athletes. Rumor has it there were many letters found in his drawers after his death.

Good response Teddy, and truth.

The more likely explanation is that the vast majority of Newark Police officers lack the requisiteRead More aptitude & agility necessary to fill shopping bags with groceries & didn't want to do anything to further embarrass themselves while under the scrutiny of the bewildered shoppers like James.

Bong Sativa maybe you can meet Officer Indica.

This probably sounds heartless, but it sounds like this house should be condemned before a tragedyRead More occurs. I doubt if any organization can bring it up to code because of the cost. It's really sad to see this happening to a working person in this country.

I'm not sure if your mom will qualify but there are lines of credit out there that she can get as aRead More home owner. It will require her to have the income to pay back small portions at a time. Thanks James!, You know it's amazing when somebody puts their own personal time to learn andRead More understand something and then you share it... I would have been more then glad to explained myself in more detail face-to-face because I may learn something myself but like a marriage you don't get on here and start posting every little detail about you and your wife and I'm not going to get on here and start posting every little detail about my past employer`s. So to whoever flagged me you could have simply posted a disagreement and I'm open-minded and can admit when I make a mistake...I would've simply deleted my post if you could've proved it wrong.

I would also like to point out that I have on two other occasions asked this Mike Bucci guy the sameRead More question and each time I am Ignored. If this is what us Newark Residents can expect from an aspiring Politician then he can keep his day job! We already have enough Status Quo people in our gov failing to answer the simple questions.
