Fundraisers for Osana Futi All Weekend

Community members holding a bake sale and car wash in which all proceeds will go to the family of a slain Newark high school student.

A memorial fund has been established and the Newark community is holding two fundraisers this weekend to raise money for the family of an 18-year-old Newark Memorial High School senior killed last weekend.

All donations and proceeds from each event will go toward the Osana Futi Memorial Fund and will aid in paying for funeral services for Osana Futi, a high school senior who died of apparent stab wounds last Sunday.

The Osana Futi Memorial Fund is established at Wells Fargo. Those who would like to donate must go to a local Wells Fargo bank and deposit the donation to the Osana Futi Memorial Fund, account no. 8201800763.

An all-day bake sale on Saturday will be held at 6201 Lafayette Ave., during Mission Valley Cougars football games.

A car wash fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the located at 35425 Newark Blvd. in which Newark Memorial students will wash cars and accept donations for the Futi family.

Futi, 18, was found late Saturday night suffering from after a fight broke out at a party in Fremont. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead early Sunday morning.

Since his death, family, friends and the entire Newark community have . On Monday, hundreds gathered to honor the Samoan native’s life.

Another fundraiser that is set for the near future is Big Time Wrestling Supershow at Newark Memorial. NMHS Athletics Booster President Stacy Kelly said a percentage of each ticket sale will go to the Futi family. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. on May 12.
